ABOUT

Bharosa offers public, private and semi-private classes in yoga around the Bay Area.

The word bharosa has many interpretations - trust, faith, confidence. I interpret it as faith in oneself.  I have been a teacher and writer for 18 years. In sharing my offerings with you, I do so with trust, faith, confidence- in me and in you.

My deepest value is accessibility. I believe in providing offerings that promote access to all, whatever your age, race, gender identification, sexual orientation, financial situation, and physical requirements may be.

So come, try out whatever calls your name, have bharosa in yourself.

YOGA

My Yoga Journey

It was as I lay on my belly receiving bodywork for the third time that week, my entire body in pain from head to foot (literally, the plantar fasciitis had spread a searing pain from the sole of my foot up to the back of my neck), that I suddenly burst into tears. Loud, sharp, gaspy tears that filled the room. I was mortified: what would my body worker think? But all she did was pat my back and say, “I was waiting for that.”

Later she told me that she’d been waiting for me to release. Later still, after years of yoga teacher training, I understood that what happened to me that day was in fact an emotional release that stemmed from physical bodywork. I understood that our bodies hold our histories, and that yoga helps us release and move through pain, whether it's emotional or physical.

I began teaching yoga thinking I’d be explaining downward dogs and headstands. But instead, I’ve moved to a kind of yoga that has healed me and that I now use to support others’ healing.

This is holistic yoga. Therapeutic yoga. Yes, there are downdogs and such. And there is also connecting our breath to our movement, there is also noticing things as a way to move through them. A yoga that we carry well beyond the mat and into our daily lives, to be drawn upon at any given moment: at an important board meeting, as we awake, while running errands.

My public and private classes have become this: yoga as a holistic practice for healing and thriving.

Testimonials

“If I’d been asked to design the perfect session, it would’ve fallen far short of what I actually experienced working with Phi. What a wonderful surprise to meet such a kind, skilled and intuitive teacher. I can hardly wait until our next session!”  - Christine

“Working with Phi gives me an opportunity to accept myself as I am in the moment. It allows me to pause and have awareness and reflection in myself. Her ability to make me feel safe and comfortable and myself in my body is life changing. Her practice is giving me a way into myself to heal and cope with my mental illness and self esteem. Our work together is giving me a tool box I can pull from when I am in need of calming. She also reinforces self care and intention with our practice, letting me know that work on myself is okay and good.” - Alanna

“Phi is such a natural teacher. She connected with me immediately. Her energy is grounded and serene, and my session with her was fantastic. Even better, she's a student, constantly practicing and learning her craft. I can't say I've had a better yoga experience than I had with her.” - Julia

“Getting to do yoga with Phi helps me so much with my day to day life, especially with hockey and work. Having stretches and movements to support my body and back are helpful and feel good. It’s hard for me to do things for myself, but Phi reminds me to take time and find small ways to incorporate our work together in my days. I often put myself on the back burner but I’m really trying to make practice a priority in my life. Honestly, she is so soothing and makes me feel at peace. I’m always so happy to see her and I feel so centered after our sessions.” - Auliya

WRITE

Screen Shot 2017-07-10 at 3.49.38 PM.png

Whether you choose to write just for yourself or to share with loved ones, writing is empowering. It is cathartic. Even if no one else ever reads a word, when you sit down and write out various aspects of your life, powerful themes and connections to your own history reveal themselves. If you choose to share with loved ones, your children get to see you beyond care-taker/bill-payer. Your grandkids connect with you in a real way.

Reflections: Your Story, Your Way is a unique memoir workshop which focuses on themes rather than a chronological list of events. Sharing with peers creates a sense of confidence and empowerment. Best of all, you don't have to be a writer to write about your life. This course does offer basic tips to help you find your voice and make your story a page-turner.
